Celebrating over food!

Dad & Mum Tam came over to Chatswood to celebrate Matt/my b'day. They took us to Sushi Ya and we ate so much! Actually, dad ate the most and he was still going after he said he was full. My dad loves fish and so he finished all the eel rice and most of the sashimi platter on his own. Mum started off slow but finished off with lots of tempura. Good on ya mum! Matt was content with his clamp noodles and ate a bit of sushi here and there. The most interesting dish was the soft shell crab. I've had this before at a Thai restaurant so it was nothing new. As predicted, it was delicious! We had a great night and to finish off the evening, we went back to our place and played hookey for a while. Thanks dad & mum for a great meal! You guys are the best!

Matt's b'day

It's a joy to celebrate Matt's b'day with him. I really thank God for bringing him safely through another year on earth. I pray that God will continue to grow him, use him and bless him with a passionate heart for his name. Matt - happy b'day my dearest hubbibi!

Shooter: Another Nut Review!

Mrs Lee 4 Nuts / Mr Lee 4 Nuts
This one was a pleasant surprise - the "Movie Show" reviews got it right in this one! Think of a blend of Bourne Identity and Sniper, add some government conspiracy and a high body count, and you have yourself Shooter... Mark Wahlberg stars in this one, veteran of movies such as The Big Hit and the Departed, and no stranger to Calvin Klein underwear ads (or so I'm told. ahem)... suprisingly enough, he doesn't do too bad a job...

Plot is decently involving, tho based on the tried and used themes of government cover ups and whatnot... Perhaps the only point it lets itself down is at the end, which seems a little contrived -
well, I guess a Hollywood movie can't end on a down note :p Not a bad ride tho - 4 Nuts from the Nut Fam!

One Liner from Mrs Lee: "Love the muscles" :p

300 - A Nut Review

Mrs Lee 3.5 Nuts / Mr Lee 3 Nuts

From the man who brought us the gritty comic book adaptation "Sin City", comes another adaptation of sorts - "300". Better titled "The 300 Six Packs", this movie brings to life the Battle of Thermopylae with a heavy dose of special effects, sex, testosterone, blood and guts and even a brief reference to history. ;)

Macho one-liners and glistening muscles are the story of the day here, as the brave army of 300 Spartans march to a predictable ending, against the monstrous (in some cases literally "monstrous") army of King Xerxes - who I am told is actually in the Bible. Hmmm.

In any case, the journey is not without entertainment, with several spectacular battle scenes (enhanced by special effects and a generous sprinkling of slow-mo segments) . The bits in between probably aren't worth mentioning, but however, are necessary in order to contrive some sort of plot; in my opinion they would be better off making the whole thing into a 15 minute action-music video... :p

One Liner from Mr Nut: "Yeah that's nothing - believe it or not, my stomach used to look like that back in the day." :p

Da Nut Reviews

Ok we admit it - we've had waaayy too much tube time for our own good... well, i guess apart from developing x ray vision we can at least share our experiences... enter... "Da Nut Reviews"!

T.M.N.T.
Mrs Lee - 2.5 Nuts / Mr Lee - 2.5 Nuts

Ahhh the bliss of nostalgia... tis the drug that moviemakers distill and profit off so well! I would be lying if I said all those afternoons of rushing home from (high) skool to catch TMNT on Cartoon Connection didn't have a part to play in our seeing this movie! Not since the Power- Ranger-look-alike Turtles Movie of the 90s have we seen Leo, Raph, Mikey and Donna grace the big screen - and this time in 3D CGI! whoooo.... schweet you say...

Well, the unfortunate thing about nostalgia is that was then, and this is now - as kids we probably didn't demand too much in a plot - add another devious Foot Clan plot and a couple of scenes of nunchuka action, and we're satisfied; as adults tho, we tend to look for a little more - in this sense TMNT comes off as a little childish, tho a nice spot of fun - the plotline is predictable (will the turtles reunite one more time to fight off the forces of evil?!? oh go on, u know u want to... :)), CGI animation and action is a cut above the Incredibles, there are a few laughs here n there, and the turtles are as adorable as ever... 2.5 Nuts from the Nut Family, but increase that if below the age of 13 :)

Mrs Nuts One Liner: "Matt made me see it. Oh the price of love..." :p

Pirates III

Raing: 2.5 stars
It wasn't that good. Got a bit boring here and there. Jokes weren't that funny. Love story ended in tragedy. Summary: it was like a re-baked cake - freshness gone.

Worth going to the cinema? Only if you go on Tuesday and pay $8.50 otherwise I'd wait for the DVD.

1st AFL match!

Matt got 2 free tickets from work to watch Sydney Swans Vs Port Adelaide. We arrived very early and ate our lunch there. My excitement slowly built up as the match started. I don't understand the game but I eventually worked out when to clap and cheer. The only problem was that the ball was way too small. I didn't know what was happening when they were playing at the other side of the stadium. Nonetheless I felt educated. Thanks Matt for a great day out!
